With spring approaching, it is time to start thinking about your homes filtration system, and your indoor air quality. There are many different types of filters and filtration systems that can be used to give your home the highest air quality possible. While each home is different and has its own specific needs, there is some basic information that will hold true no matter what the situation.
Merv Rating – The MERV rating stands for Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value. Basically, the higher the merv rating, the more contaminants that are controlled.
Not only do filters come with different merv ratings, but they also come in different sizes. Some filters are thick, at about 5 inches. Others are on the thinner side, around 1 inch. There are also very thin filters that come in roll form, etc… The thickness of the filter really has to do with how long they can last. The thicker the filter, the longer you can go without changing them.
